General District & Circuit Court Local Probation
Offenders who appear, may be placed on Local Probation supervision immediately following trial. Clients are expected to report immediately after being placed on probation by the court. The conditions of local probation supervision are generally established by the court and the assigned Probation Officer.

- How are clients placed on local probation supervision and referred to Community Corrections Services (CCS)?

By Judges in the General District / Circuit Courts in Chesterfield and Colonial Heights as a sentencing option, and an alternative to incarceration.
- What services are available through CCS?

Available services to the court are:
- Alcohol and drug screening and assessments
- Alcohol and drug testing
- Anger management classes
- Community service
- Moral Reconation Therapy classes
- Probation supervision
- Referrals for alcohol and drug education and treatment
- Restitution collection and monitoring
- Shoplifting prevention classes
- Who is eligible for referral to CCS?

Offenders who are 18 years old, or considered an adult at the time of conviction, of a misdemeanor or a non-violent felony for which the court may impose a jail sentence (in accordance with Virginia Code 19.2-303.3).
- How long is an individual generally on probation supervision?

- A client who has a return court date established:
- Must be supervised until the return to court date, or three months if the client has completed all court ordered requirements, whichever comes first
- A client who does not have a return court date established:
- Three months minimum for misdemeanants
- Six months minimum for felons
- A substance abuse tested client must remain on supervision until his return to court date or six months, whichever comes first

- Does an individual pay a fee for participation in the Local Probation Supervision Program?

Yes, all offenders under local probation supervision will be charged a one-time fee of $150, unless waived for cause.
- What are the responsibilities of the client while under Local Probation Supervision?

The main conditions are as follows:
- Keep the peace, be of good behavior, and not violate any municipal, county, state, or federal laws and ordinances
- Follow CCS staff's instructions and be truthful and cooperative
- Not to illegally use, possess, or distribute narcotics, dangerous drugs, controlled substances, or drug paraphernalia
- Meet with their local probation officer as instructed
- Comply with all court ordered requirements
- What is the non-compliance or violation process?

- The assigned probation officer will notify the court, if a client violates the conditions of his local probation supervision by:
- Testing positive for illegal substances
- Not reporting for a test
- Missing scheduled appointments
- Absconding from supervision
- Violation of any other agreed upon condition
- Court discretion will determine the legal course of action taken against the client for his alleged violation
