Pre-Certified - Lateral Officer Program
The Chesterfield County Police Department accepts lateral transfers for those with certifications in the state of Virginia, as well as out of state. Those who are selected will attend an abbreviated 14-week academy and will receive a full field training experience to maximize assimilation and familiarization, emphasizing Chesterfield County Police Department philosophy, policies and procedures. Please note: Salary is commensurate with experience.
Police Officer Pre-Certified (In-State)
Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible you must:
- Possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire
- Have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program
- Have left former agency in good standing
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Be a US citizen
- Pass a physical agility test
- Possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver’s license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years
- Have binocular vision of 20/25 corrected
- Have weight in proportion to height
- Have no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors
- Have no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault
- Pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening

- Possess a valid state law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding the date of hire
- Have completed five consecutive years with the same agency upon completion of a field training program
- Have left former agency in good standing
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Be a US citizen
- Pass a physical agility test
- Possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver’s license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years
- Have binocular vision of 20/25 corrected
- Have weight in proportion to height
- Have no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors
