Youth Planning and Development - Youth Awards Program

The winners of the 34th Outstanding Youth Awards were honored recently at a ceremony at the Career and Technical Center @ Hull.

The awards recognize young people and adults who have had a positive impact on their schools, communities or in the lives of other individuals. Youths receive awards in the categories of courage, compassion, leadership, and service. Fifty-five youths and nine adults were nominated this year. The youth nominees represented eight high schools and two middle schools. Youth winners for each category are as follows:

Service: Carol O’Brien, a student at Manchester High School

Courage: Elijah Strickler, a student at Cosby High School

Compassion: Charlotte Leche, a student at Cosby High School

Leadership: Lawrence Jia, a student at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School

The adult winners were Angie Johnson and C.H. Faber. Ms. Johnson is a committed Clover Hill High School Marching Cavaliers band parent who has sacrificed a great deal of time to encourage and support the band during competitions, football games and practices. Mr. Faber currently serves as president of Scott Athletic Association. For the past 12 seasons, he has mentored and coached the youths, as well as motivating them with their school work.

The awards are sponsored by the Chesterfield County Department of Youth Planning and Development, the Youth Services Citizen Board, and the Midlothian-Chesterfield Kiwanis Club.
