Metro Richmond Zoo
More than 600 animals are displayed in spacious, naturalistic exhibits. Giraffe, zebra, gazelles, kangaroos, ostrich, camels, waterfowl, chimpanzees, tigers (1 white), lions, and a new nocturnal exhibit featuring bats and sloths, and more than 200 monkeys are just some of the animals currently at the zoo.

Southside Speedway
NASCAR runs every Friday night at the toughest short track in the South. Races are held from April to September at the one-third mile asphalt oval track. The track has been in operation for 50 years. Auto racing at the Southside Speedway is recognized as the longest continuous running professional sport in the metropolitan Richmond area. The arena seats about 4,200 fans and features family entertainment.

Virginia State UniversityAmerica's first fully state-supported four-year institution of higher learning for African Americans, Virginia State University is a comprehensive university and one of two land-grant institutions in Virginia. In its first academic year, 1883-84, VSU had 126 students and seven faculty, one building and a $20,000 budget. Today, VSU has more than 4,000 students, 27 undergraduate and 13 graduate degree programs, approximately 200 faculty members, 50 buildings and an annual budget of more than $50 million.
