Month-long celebration highlights undiscovered roles of local parks and recreation

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — Summer is here, which means it’s time to get out and discover the great things happening at your local parks and recreation centers. This July, explore the “undiscovered” roles of local parks and recreation with Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation as06-28-18 This July Chesterfield Residents Invited to Discover Everything Parks and Recreation Has to Offer we celebrate Park and Recreation Month, A Lifetime of Discovery. A variety of fun activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities.

“Communities from around the nation will celebrate Parks and Recreation during the month of July, and for Chesterfield’s Parks and Recreation Department, this means a time to celebrate the many programs, parks, facilities, and sites that we offer our citizens,” said Dr. James Worsley, Chesterfield parks and recreation director. “Come join us this summer and discover a lifetime of opportunities.”

Chesterfield County is celebrating Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), by inviting you to explore A Lifetime of Discovery at your local parks. Playgrounds, recreation centers, sports leagues, summer camps are just a few of the things that come to mind when we think of parks and recreation. But, parks and recreation is so much more than that. During Park and Recreation Month, discover all the ways parks and recreation can improve quality of life, like science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programming; senior programs; innovative health and wellness opportunities; community celebrations; outdoor education; maintenance and safety; and more.

NRPA encourages people that support parks and recreation to share why they think it’s important to explore and discover all the county has to offer with the hashtag #DiscoverJuly.
