Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., (CALEA), will arrive Dec. 10, 2017 to examine all aspects of the Chesterfield County Emergency Communications Center policy and procedures, management, operations and support services, Emergency Communications Director Richard Troshak announced today.  

CALEA accreditation signifies that an agency has met specific standards of excellence and operates according to norms established by practitioners in the public safety field. Accreditation compels an agency to operate within specific guidelines and adopt policies and procedures that meet internationally accepted practices. The accreditation process is a management model and a blueprint for self-improvement, which strengthens accountability within the agency and to the community it serves.

As part of the voluntary process, the Emergency Communications Center must meet or exceed the commission’s standards in order to gain the CALEA reaccreditation.

The public has the opportunity to address the assessors in a confidential manner.  Members of the community are invited to offer comments on the Emergency Communications Center’s compliance with applicable standards or other significant issues to the assessment team by calling (804) 796-7082 on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 from 1-3 p.m.

Telephone comments should be limited to 10 minutes per caller and must address the Emergency Communications Center’s ability to comply with CALEA communications standards. Communications standards can be made available for review by contacting Accreditation Manager Bridget Branch at (804) 717-6993.  

Members of the community who would like to submit written comments about the Chesterfield County Emergency Communications Center may mail their comments to:  Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA  20155.

The assessors will determine compliance with standards by viewing agency operations, reviewing written documentation, interviewing employees and support agencies, and visiting any offsite locations where compliance can be witnessed. Once the commission’s assessors complete their review of the Emergency Communications Center, they will report back to the full commission, which will decide if the agency has met all compliance requirements to be awarded reaccredited status.
