Increased Traffic Expected Near Amazon During Holiday Season

November 14, 2017

Motorists should allow extra time around the Amazon Fulfillment Center through the holidays

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — Motorists should expect increased traffic in the area around the Amazon Fulfillment Center on Meadowville Technology Parkway beginning Monday, Nov. 20, through the holiday season. The traffic pattern will be similar to past years, and motorists should allow extra time to get through the area during shift changes.

The business will begin ramping up staff Nov. 20, and traffic will increase as the workforce increases. Chesterfield County is working closely with Amazon to mitigate the impact on traffic.

Off-duty police officers, paid by Amazon, will be at the Amazon facility each day 4-7 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. to direct traffic into and out of the complex.

Amazon traffic will be allowed in and out from the north only via Meadowville Technology Parkway during shift changes. The North Enon Church Road access to Meadowville Technology Parkway will be closed during shift changes.

Outgoing Amazon traffic will be directed left out of the parking lot toward the traffic circle that connects Meadowville Technology Parkway and Meadowville Road. Electronic message boards, as well as training conducted by Amazon, will encourage employees to then take Interstate 295 and avoid Rivers Bend Boulevard.

Incoming Amazon traffic will be directed, also through training and electronic message boards, to take I-295 to Exit 16 (Meadowville Road/Rivers Bend Boulevard) to the traffic circle to Meadowville Technology Parkway.

Local traffic traveling to the Mt. Blanco and Meadowville Landing neighborhoods is encouraged to use Enon Church Road from East Hundred Road (Route 10) during Amazon shift-change hours.

County staff and police are aware of the traffic concerns and encourage those traveling in the area to be aware of the traffic pattern beginning Nov. 20, and allow extra time to get through the area during shift changes
