Do You Know What Happened to Damion West?

July 10, 2017

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — The Chesterfield County Police Department is taking a new approach to help solve an old case.

On July 9, 2009, Damion L. West was killed in the 4800 block of Burnt Oak Drive. The case has not been solved. Police hope a new video will help bring in more details about the case.

This summer, the police department worked with the county’s Department of Communications and Media to produce a roughly nine-minute video highlighting the unsolved homicide. The video, titled “Chesterfield Unsolved,” includes interviews with the case detectives and West’s family, as well as crime scene photos and reenactments.

“We wanted to try something new to draw attention to this case,” said Capt. Mike Louth, commander of the police department’s Criminal Investigations Division. “We hope that taking a deeper look at this crime will generate information that will help us solve it. We would encourage anyone with information, even if it seems insignificant, to reach out to us. That piece of information could be what we need to solve this case.”

If this effort proves successful, the department may try this approach with other unsolved cases, Capt. Louth said.

The video debuted Sunday, July 9, and aired across Chesterfield County’s video platforms. Watch it on Chesterfield County’s cable channel, Comcast 98 and Verizon 28, Sundays at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., and on Mondays through Saturdays at 8 a.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. The video will be available on the county’s YouTube channel, as well as on county and police department social media sites, Facebook and Twitter.
