CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — Teen Ambassadors is seeking dynamic high school juniors and seniors to serve as mentors to elementary-school-aged children next fall. Volunteers must be Chesterfield County residents who believe in, and live, substance-free lifestyles. Teen Ambassadors build relationships with children, participate together in activities that reinforce a substance-free lifestyle and help with homework. Selected ambassadors will mentor their assigned children after school once a week for one and a half hours at Chalkley or Harrowgate Elementary schools. Those who complete the program will receive community service hours that may be shown on applications for National Honor Society, service organizations and colleges, or on résumé and employment applications.

Applications for the fall semester must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 7. An interview and one day of training are required. For more information or an application, visit www.chesterfieldsafe.org and click on “Get Involved” and then “Teen Ambassadors,” or call Sherry Callear, Teen Ambassadors coordinator, at 804-717-6404.

Teen Ambassadors is a program of Substance Abuse Free Environment, Inc., SAFE, and is implemented by its partners, Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services Prevention Services and Chesterfield County Public Schools. This program is facilitated by Prevention Services, Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services Department. Visit www.parent.chesterfield.gov to learn about other programs offered.
