Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Receives $150,000 Contribution from Dominion Virginia Power

March 31, 2015
Parks & Recreation
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VIRGINIA — The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation received a $150,000 cash contribution from Dominion Virginia Power to be used toward the acquisition and construction of trails and linear parks.

“The county is in the latter stages of developing a new Bikeways and Trails plan, and Dominion’s generous donation will help us implement some of the planned linear parks,” Parks and Recreation Director Mike Golden said.

Dominion Virginia Power is planning improvements at its Chesterfield power station, and the $150,000 contribution is a proffered condition as part of those efforts.

“Dominion is pleased to partner with Chesterfield County to make our community an even better place to live and work,” Pat Lee, manager of Generation Construction for Dominion, said.

The planning of the new Bikeways and Trails plan began in January 2014. This plan will set the framework to create a system of trails and on-road bicycle facilities throughout the county that will promote healthy lifestyles and provide safe and accessible routes on which to bike, walk and run. The plan is part of the Phase II of Moving Forward – The Comprehensive Plan for Chesterfield County.

The Bikeways and Trails plan will be presented to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission for a public hearing on April 2, 2015.
