Police Arrest Suspects in New Year’s Day Robbery

Glenn R. Francis 09-10-14 CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested two men in relation to a robbery that occurred outside the Spencer's gas station at 5144 Centralia Road at about 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.

The victim, who was in the process of opening the business, was outside the store when he was approached from behind and struck repeatedly in the head. The suspect took cash from the victim and fled the scene. The victim was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

On Sept. 8, Mark R. Kelly Jr., 25, and Glenn R. Francis, 35, were each indicted with malicious wounding, robbery, brandishing a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the Jan. 1 incident. Francis, of the 5800 block of Larrymore Road in Richmond, was arrested without incident on Monday, Sept. 8. Francis is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail.

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, police arrested Kelly, of the 800 block of Byswick Lane in Richmond, without incident.
