CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA--The Board of Supervisors, at its 2014 organizational meeting held January 8, unanimously elected Dale District Supervisor Jim Holland to serve as chairman for this calendar year.

Steve Elswick, Matoaca District supervisor, was elected as vice chairman, a position he held in 2013.
Holland is a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he teaches Accounting. He also is a partner in an accounting business.

He stated his three main goals as chairman: valuing the work done by all county employees, enhancing the quality of life for Chesterfield County residents and working to provide county services as efficiently as possible.

Clover Hill District Supervisor Art Warren nominated Holland as chairman.

Holland is a 23-year resident of Chesterfield County. Born in Gates, North Carolina, he received a Master's in Business Administration in 1980 from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Fayetteville State University in 1979, with honors.

He served in the United States Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from January 1972 until December 1974, in the 18th Airborne Corps, 118th Military Police Company, as a paratrooper and military policeman.

In October 2013, Holland was appointed by Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell to serve on the Virginia Board of Accountancy.

Holland is a member of the Chesterfield Democratic Party and is an active member in several organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of CPAs. Holland has been active in many civic organizations, including Chesterfield County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Task Force, Parent-Teacher Association, Chesterfield County Council of PTAs as district vice president, president of Jacobs Athletic Association and treasurer of Manchester High School Band Boosters Club. He is also a deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church Centralia. He also serves on the Supervisory Committee of the Virginia Credit Union.

He and his wife, Judith, a Chesterfield County Public Schools teacher, have two children, both of whom graduated from Chesterfield County Public Schools and are college graduates.
