A+ Top Transparency Website in 2013CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — For the second year in a row, Chesterfield County is among a select few Virginia localities whose websites have received A+ grades for government transparency and openness. Sunshine Review, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to government transparency, evaluated 1,000 qualified government websites nationwide and based its grading on 10 criteria focused on openness. Chesterfield County’s site, www.Chesterfield.gov, is one of 12 Virginia entities, and one of only seven Virginia county governments, to earn the A+ mark. Nationwide, 247 entities earned A+ or A- grades, earning them Sunshine Review’s coveted Sunny Award.

“The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors has made transparency and openness a priority in how we operate every day,” County Administrator James J.L. Stegmaier said. “We continually want to advance the connection between the work of government and the community. The more informed citizens are, and the more engaged they are in the process, the better the decisions will be. And, we all benefit from better decisions, which result in a better community.”

“We are pleased to have this recognition of the efforts of county leaders and staff to remove the mystery from government,” said Barry Condrey, chief information officer with the county’s Information Systems Technology Department. “The Board of Supervisors equips and enables the IST Department and the Public Affairs Department to implement the technology and practices necessary to expose the details of government operations to the citizens for their convenience and involvement."
