CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA-Chesterfield County will join Gov. Timothy M. Kaine in celebrating Business Appreciation Week throughout the commonwealth. Coordinated by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance, Business Appreciation Week is scheduled for May 13-19. This year's theme, "The Foundation of American Business," acknowledges America's 400th Anniversary. Since the founding of the New World in 1607, Virginia has set the course for American business. The aspirations and fortitude of the founders of our great commonwealth are evident today in the efforts of each business-corporate leaders and small-business owners alike. In recognition of the continuous work and dedication by our businesses throughout Virginia and in Chesterfield County, Forbes magazine ranked Virginia in 2006 as "The Best State for Business." "I am privileged to officially thank every business in our community during Business Appreciation Week," said Chesterfield County Administrator Lane B. Ramsey. "The strength of our local economy and superb quality of life are direct results of contributions by local businesses." The Chesterfield County Department of Economic Development, along with the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce and Chesterfield Business Council, will host Celebrate Chesterfield Business! for local businesses at the Sheraton Park South Hotel on May 15. Village Bank, a full-service Virginia-chartered community bank headquartered in Midlothian, will be the main sponsor for the second year in a row. During this event, Chesterfield County will present its annual First Choice Business Awards. Evan Wooton, president of Premier Pet Products, will be the keynote speaker. Last year, RJ Smith Construction Inc. was recognized as the 2006 First Choice Business of the Year. A special recognition award for community service was given to Austin Brockenbrough and Associates.
