Chesterfield County Recognized For Diversity Efforts

June 26, 2006
Human Resource Management

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA -The Richmond Human Resource Management Association and Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce have recognized Chesterfield County government with the Employer All Star Award. The award recognizes the county's proactive efforts in promoting diversity and demonstrating a commitment to the added value that diversity brings to an organization. "Our initiatives consist of internships, recruitment, retention, outreach programs, community celebrations and training," said County Administrator Lane B. Ramsey. Of the county's top five staff positions, two are currently held by African-Americans, including one female. Chesterfield County has conducted the Metro Richmond region's largest annual Black History Month celebration for the past 14 years, and works closely with the region's Asian communities on a variety of festivals and events. The county also has a full-time Hispanic Liaison to assist the county's growing Latino population, and conducts a range of activities throughout the year recognizing the richness of other cultures. For more information about the Employer All Star Awards or Chesterfield County's diversity initiatives, contact Mary Martin in the Department of Human Resource Management at 748-1551.
