Task Force Receives $5,000 Grant To Help Victims Of Domestic Violence

June 21, 2006
Domestic and Sexual Violence Resource Center

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA - The Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force has received a $5,000 grant from the Virginia Family and Children's Trust Fund to help victims of domestic violence. The funding will go to the Carolyn Miller Memorial Fund, which provides financial assistance to those fleeing abusive relationships. The Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force is a coalition of agencies and concerned citizens that has provided leadership in preventing and responding to domestic violence in the county for more than 20 years. In a unique partnership, the task force partnered with friends and family of Carolyn Miller to establish a memorial fund after Miller's death in December 2000. Miller was murdered in her Chesterfield County home by her boyfriend. The Carolyn Miller Memorial Fund provides emergency funds to domestic-violence victims and their children who are in crisis situations in an effort to increase safety and, ultimately, save lives. The Virginia Family and Children's Trust Fund is administered by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The fund raises and distributes funds to communities throughout Virginia for family-violence prevention, treatment and public awareness. For more information about the grant, Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force or Carolyn Miller Memorial Fund, call Elizabeth Smyers at 748-1341.
