Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame Recognition Event

Alzheimer’s: Communication Tips and Strategies
Thursday, May 24, 9 a.m.  

Lucy Corr Village Mast Auditorium, 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd. Chesterfield 

Explore how communication takes places when someone has Alzheimer’s, and to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia. Chris Nufer from the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Richmond will identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.   Lawyers Helping Seniors Day
Tuesday, June 5, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

Legal documents are prepared free for Chesterfield’s eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities.  This program is for individuals who have never had their legal documents prepared.  Eligibility requirement is less than $37,425 for a household of one.  Pre-registration is required and documents are prepared by appointment only, so please contact the Senior Advocate’s Office for more information at 804-768-7878 or SeniorAdvocate@chesterfield.gov. The location of the event will be announced when appointments are scheduled.

Caregiver Connection Support Group
Tuesday, June 5, from 4-5:15 p.m.  

Lucy Corr Village, Assisted Living Friendship Room, 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd., Chesterfield 23832 

Caregiver Connection is a monthly support group for those who are caring for an adult with physical or cognitive deterioration, usually a parent or spouse. For more information contact 804-768-7878 or SeniorAdvocate@chesterfield.gov.

Live Well, Virginia! Chronic Disease Self-Management Program
Wednesdays, June 6 - July 18, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Stonebridge Recreation Center, 230 Kari Linn Drive, North Chesterfield 

This free, six-week program helps people with on-going health conditions self-manage their conditions and take control of their life. Participants will learn how to develop manageable action plans for their chronic disease. Topics will include goal setting, problem solving, physical activity, healthy eating and more. To register, contact the Stonebridge Recreation Center. 804-768-7885.

Kinship Connection Support Group
Thursday, June 15, from 4-5:15 p.m.  

Chesterfield Community Development Building, 9800 Government Center Parkway, Chesterfield 

Come and join with grandparents and other kin who are raising a child to network, share stories and help each other. A speaker from Chesterfield County Public Schools will be present. Emergency Management
Thursday, June 28, 9 a.m.

Lucy Corr Village Mast Auditorium, 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd. Chesterfield 

Participants will learn how to prepare for emergencies and disasters by understanding the hazards that can affect Chesterfield County, what supplies are needed to sustain themselves for at least 72 hours following a disaster, how to communicate with others and how to stay connected to information relevant to the incident.
