General Registrar

How to Register to Vote

In order to register to vote, a Virginia Voter Registration Application must be completed in full and submitted to the local office of the General Registrar.

Application forms may be obtained through the following:

The application form may be submitted by mail or in person. Once submitted, you WILL receive a reply - either a denial or a voter registration card. If you do not receive any response within 2 weeks, contact the office of the General Registrar. Denials are usually the result of not completing the application in full. Please be sure to answer EVERY question and sign the application.

The final day to register to vote in a general or primary election is on the 29th day prior to the election. (The registration books are closed during the 28 days preceding a general or primary election.) Those persons not registered by that deadline will not be eligible to vote in the next election.
