Chesterfield County Police Department

School Resource Officers


Purpose

The Chesterfield County School Resource Officer Program provides police officers in all Chesterfield County middle and high schools.  The officer fulfills a vital role in promoting safe school communities.  Safe school communities promote trust in our schools and police, contribute tot he learning process and foster quality county growth.  In addition to serving as police officers in the school communities, these officers also:

  • provide a safe environment in their school communities by using crime prevention strategies and utilizing enforcement measures,
  • provide guidance, act as positive role models and serve as a contact to support services both within and outside the school environment,
  • provide schools with additional educational resources by sharing their expertise in the classroom.

Policy

There will be no exception to the practice of reporting violations of the law.  Chesterfield County Schools are places of zero tolerance for weapons, drugs or abuse of any kind.  School resource officers and school administrators shall take measures to prevent and address all incidents involving:

  • assaults against students or school personnel,
  • threats against school personnel,
  • involvement with drugs or alcohol
  • the possession of contraband or any suspicious substance which may be illegal, or
  • the possession of weapons.
