2008 Citizens Academy
The next Citizens Academy will be held at the Clover Hill Police Support Facility, 2730 Hicks Road on Sept. 11. Classes will be held every Thursday from 6:30 -10 p.m.
Through the Citizens Academy, you will learn about the things the Chesterfield County Police Department does to make our community a safer place to live, work, and play. You will also have many opportunities to ask those often wondered questions and receive answers that will be beneficial to both you and the community.
The Citizens Academy is more than just a series of lectures. It includes visual presentations, question and answer sessions, tours, and a variety of practical exercises you will participate in. You will tour department headquarters and observe communication officers handling 911 calls in the Emergency Communications Center. You will watch a police K-9 dog search for drugs, and conduct simulated felony traffic stops. You will learn about specialized units such as our bicycle and motorcycle patrols and the Emergency Response Team. Members will participate in practical exercises such as dusting for latent fingerprints and drawing a crime scene diagram with the Forensics Unit. Instructors will discuss criminal law and traffic law, identity theft and fraud and crime prevention. If you choose to, you can even ride along with an officer as he or she patrols his or her assigned area.
We believe the graduates of our Citizens Academy play an important partner role in helping us ensure that Chesterfield County is the safest and most secure community of its size in the U.S.
