Chesterfield Police 2002 Annual Report

To the Citizens of Chesterfield County:

Dear Chesterfield County Citizens,

Each year presents new opportunities and challenges for the Chesterfield County Police Department and each year our employees meet those head on. The year 2002 was no different.

As our community's population steadily increased, so did our citizens needs. Despite the increased demand for service, the Chesterfield County Police Department's commitment to our citizens' safety remained our number one priority.

In the past year, we maintained both the lowest crime rate and cost per capita in the Richmond metropolitan area. We were the recipients of several awards including the NACO Achievement Award for the Success Through Education and Proactive Policing Program (STEPP), the IACP National Chief's Challenge second place Municipal Agency Award and first place Technology Award, and the VACP Law Enforcement Challenge first place Municipal Agency Award. We also partnered with the Virginia Center for School Safety to create a curriculum for Governor Warner's KidSafe Virginia, modeled after our successful STEPP program.

The opportunities and challenges we faced in 2002 allowed us to reflect on our legacy and plan for our future. The 2002 Annual Report illustrates and celebrates the achievements of the Chesterfield County Police Department. These achievements would not have been possible without the support of our citizens. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Colonel Carl R. Baker
