Traffic safety complaints
Chesterfield County residents can call in speeding complaints and traffic
concerns within the county via the Chesterfield County Police Department’s
traffic hotline at 318-8084. Citizens may also e-mail their speeding
complaints to speeding@chesterfield.gov. Please select one method as
opposed to reporting both by phone and e-mail to avoid confusion.
Citizens can report concerns about speeders in their neighborhood or
situations that pose persistent traffic safety hazards by calling the
hotline from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.
If you are calling after regular business hours and on weekends you
may leave a message to include your name, telephone number, and a brief
description of your concern. The information will be reviewed and shared
with both the Traffic Section and the appropriate district police station.
In emergency situations, citizens should call 911.
Information we need about your speeding complaint
Provide your name and phone number - On occasion
it is necessary for us to clarify the problem or obtain additional
information from citizens who contact the Traffic Hotline. This
will help Traffic and Patrol officers address and resolve the
problem.
What type of complaint do you have?
Speeding complaints - For persistent speeding issues on neighborhood
streets.
Traffic complaints – Citizens may also call about motorists
who run stop signs, pass stopped school buses, drive recklessly,
and park vehicles illegally.
Location of the problem
Where is the problem occurring? Please include the block
numbers and specific street names. Avoid using just the subdivision
name. You may also reference cross streets.
Example:
“We are experiencing speeding issues between the 5400 and 6000 block
of Main Street.”
Time of day
When does the problem occur? Please provide specific times.
Example:
“The speeding occurs Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. and
4 p.m. - 6 p.m.”
Citizens often give permission for police officers to park in
their driveways while operating radar and observing traffic issues.
Often times speeding complaints deal with particular neighborhood
residents who consistently speed in the neighborhood. In
those instances, please include a detailed description of the vehicle,
person, and license plate number in addition to above information. The
information will be forwarded to beat and traffic officers.
The Traffic Hotline is for non-emergency complaints only. It
may be several hours or days before the Traffic Hotline complaint
reaches an officer for investigation. Citizens should call
911 in any situation requiring immediate attention or one that
poses immediate danger to motorists, pedestrians, or bicyclists. |
