Fire Station #2 - Manchester

Fire Station #2 - Manchester

The Chesterfield Ruritan Club, aided by a large group of citizens, formed the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department in April of 1945. This was the county's third fire department. A two-bay building was built on a small lot given to the department. The need for expansion led the group to build a combination fire station and community center in 1956. In 1970, the City of Richmond annexed 23 square miles of the county, which included the station. Land was secured in the county and temporary operations were run out of a mobile home and metal garage building. In 1972, the present three-bay facility, located at 7541 Hull Street Road, opened making it the first fire station built by the county. Station 2, staffed by 15 career personnel, ran 1,200 calls for 1998.
