Forest Fire Prevention

People Aware are People Who Care

People Aware Know:

  • The forests are critically dry.
  • A single spark or discarded cigarette can start a disastrous wildfire.
  • A little bit of rain won't solve our problem.

People Who Care

  • Obey all state and local fire and water use restrictions.
  • Are extra careful when working in or enjoying the outdoors.
  • Learn more about what you can do to protect your home, your neighbor's home and the natural resources of Virginia.

Don't Be Scared - Be Prepared

Did You Know

  • We are working with the Virginia Department of Forestry to alert citizens and visitors to Virginia about the dry weather conditions and high risk of wildfires. Activities that normally would not be a fire hazard have turned into serious conditions because of the extreme dryness.
  • Wildfire fighting resources throughout the commonwealth are prepared to respond at a moment's notice to the report of a wildfire. Call 911 if you see a wildfire.
  • Woods Arson is an increasing problem, call 911 or your local Forestry office to report any suspicious activity.
  • Keeping your roof and gutters clean and creating a 30 foot area free of debris and combustible material around your home can make a difference.
