Chesterfield Police 2006 Annual ReportCitizen InvolvementThe department is fortunate to have a strong partnership with our community and our volunteers. Volunteerism has a tremendous impact upon Chesterfield County and America. Volunteers are a valued commodity within the Chesterfield County Police Department. In 2006, they contributed more than 36,000 hours of their time. Nearly 200 men and women devote their skills and time to groups such as Crime Solvers, Chaplains, Law Enforcement Explorers, Auxiliary Police, Motorist Assistance and the Police Foundation. Office volunteers also conduct research and provide clerical support to police and detectives in the department’s Crime Prevention, Crimes Against Property and Police Training sections. To learn how you may become a volunteer for the Chesterfield County Police Department, please contact Carole Maxwell at (804) 674-7006 ext. 115 or e-mail Maxwellc@chesterfield.gov. All potential volunteers must undergo background investigations due to the sensitive nature of law enforcement. Crime Solvers is responsible for the day-to-day operation of an anonymous tip-reporting program encompassing both Chesterfield County and the city of Colonial Heights. This program enables concerned citizens to anonymously report criminal activity any time, day or night, and to receive rewards should their tips lead to convictions. The Crime Solvers scholastic program operates in both middle and high schools throughout the county. Crime Solvers recorded 1,059 tips in 2006. The Law Enforcement Explorer Post 609 has been sponsored by the police department since 1977. It is a program for dedicated young citizens interested in careers in law enforcement or criminal justice. These youths assist the department at numerous events and functions. The Police Chaplains provide numerous hours of volunteer service to the department. These 15 ministers provide counseling and pastoral services for our officers, their families, other department members, and citizens of the community. The chaplains receive specialized training and an orientation to police operations. Their services are available upon request or upon referral by peers and supervisors. Chaplain Robert Floyd was inducted into the Chesterfield County Senior Hall of Fame and was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award. The Chesterfield County Police Foundation was formed in 2000. The foundation provides an opportunity for citizens and organizations to support the Chesterfield law-enforcement community through monetary or property contributions. The foundation offers a tax-deductible means for making donations that help facilitate partnerships between citizens and the Chesterfield County law-enforcement community.
