To the Citizens of Chesterfield County:
Dear Chesterfield County Resident,,
The pages that follow highlight the dedication, achievements, contributions
and sacrifices made by our police officers, detectives and support personnel
in service to the people of Chesterfield County in 2004. I encourage
you to look beyond these accomplishments to understand that each individual
case involves police interaction with you, the citizen.
2004 proved to be another busy year as evidenced by the growing calls
and assignments. We responded to 213,485 calls for service and achieved
a 47 percent national clearance rate for serious offenses. We proudly
swore in 32 men and women as police officers to add to our growing department.
To meet the needs of our citizens, we continue to explore recruitment
initiatives to staff our department with the best police officers. Recruitment
efforts will play a large role in the coming year as the county grows.
Our region once again faced the forces of nature in late August via
rain, high winds and flash flooding caused by Tropical Storm Gaston.
The storm’s wrath presented numerous situations in which life and
safety were threatened. Citizens and publicsafety personnel worked
tirelessly to help those in need and made more than 50 rescues.
Your support, willingness and desire to become involved to protect your
family and community makes our jobs so rewarding. Together we continue
to make Chesterfield County a “FIRST CHOICE” community.
Sincerely,
Colonel Carl R. Baker
