About the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update

The Parks and Recreation Master Plan update is a recommendation of Moving Forward –The Comprehensive Plan for Chesterfield County. The Chesterfield Parks and Recreation Department, together with other county departments and our Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, co-sponsored groups, foundations and other partners, is currently working on developing this updated plan. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will set the framework to create a high-quality park system that meets the needs of residents and visitors in all stages of life through an equitable provision of active and passive recreation opportunities. Public parks serve a variety of cultural, recreational, educational, historical and natural functions, and are an important component of a high-quality of life. In addition, the county park system promotes tourism through sports tournaments and other events, providing revenue for government services, local businesses and supporting economic development.
