The County operates two convenience centers for household refuse disposal and recycling. These services are provided for county residents only.

Attention Northern Area Convenience Center Customers:

A construction project to create a customer-friendly disposal area will begin Sept. 20, and last about a month. Staff will be on hand to direct residents to the designated disposal areas during each of the construction phases. The convenience center will remain open throughout the construction process.



Southern Area Convenience Center (SACC)

6700 Landfill Dr., Chester, VA 23831
7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Thursday – Monday)
Site is closed Tuesday and Wednesday 

(SACC - Mulch loaded Thursdays 8 a.m. - noon, except in raining or wet conditions)

Northern Area Convenience Center (NACC)

3200 Warbro Rd., Midlothian, VA 23112
7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Friday – Tuesday)
Site is closed Wednesday and Thursday 

Fees are payable by cash, check (to “Treasurer, Chesterfield County”), MasterCard and Visa. Customer Value Cards (CVCs) will no longer be offered. Cards without expiration dates will be honored until all visits are used.


  • Available for citizens to load at the Southern Area Convenience Center during normal business hours
  • Will be loaded for citizens at the Southern Area Convenience Center every Thursday from 8 a.m. – noon (Will not be loaded if raining or wet conditions)

The Convenience Centers accept the following


  • $10 each - Non-Freon (i.e. washer, dryer, stove, hot water heater, furnace/boiler)
  • $15 each - Freon (i.e. air conditioner, freezer, refrigerator)
  • Please remove all food waste

Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs)

  • Recycled at no charge

Construction and Demolition Debris

Contractors working at county residences may bring in construction and demolition debris from one residential property per visit. No asbestos, lead, chemicals or paint are allowed. A driver’s license and proof of residential work site (e.g., utility bill, building permit) shall be made available upon request.

  • $15 – 1 pickup truck load
  • $30 – 1 pickup truck load with 10’ or smaller trailer load
  • $45 – 1 pickup truck load with trailer load longer than 10’ and shorter than 20’
  • $60 – 1 pickup truck load with a trailer load longer than 20’

Electronics Recycling

  • $7 - No additional fee if bringing in with residential household waste
  • Flat screen computer monitors and televisions will be recycled at the convenience centers. Citizens will have the choice to put the other monitors and TVs into the trash containers or take to the next county e-cycling collection event to be recycled.

  • Grills and 20lb (grill size) and 40lb (camper size) propane tanks

Household Hazardous Chemicals – No Contractor Chemicals or Paint

  • Free
    • Paints
    • Pesticides
    • Acids
    • Solvents
    • Aerosol cans
    • Auto batteries
  • Limit of 10 gallons of paint per year


  • $7 – No additional fee if bringing in with residential household waste
  • All gasoline and oil need to be removed prior to drop off
  • Riding lawnmowers are required to have the battery removed prior to disposal


  • $7
  • Limit of 3 mattress sets annually

Recyclable Materials

  • Free
    • Aluminum
    • Glass
    • Metal containers
    • Cardboard
    • Mixed paper (junk mail, magazines, newspapers, catalogs, computer and office paper)
    • #1 through #7 plastics, including waxy coated food and beverage cartons (milk, juice, juice boxes, soup, creamer, egg substitutes). Rinse and place cap back on the carton before placing in the recycling container.
  • NO Styrofoam, plastic bags or food-contaminated containers

Residential Trash and Vegetative Debris (brush, grass, leaves, small limbs and timber less than 16” in diameter and 8' feet long  and other yard waste)

  • $7 – 1 pickup truck load
  • $14 – 1 pickup truck load with a 10’ or smaller trailer load
  • $21 – 1 pickup truck load with a trailer load longer than 10’ and shorter than 20’
  • Trucks larger than standard pickup trucks, including moving vans, roll backs, and small dump trucks will be charged accordingly
  • Bagged leaves and wood chips are to be disposed of in the MSW containers

Scrap Metal Recycling

  • A scrap metal box is available at both Convenience Center Locations
  • Any clean, reusable metal is accepted

Textiles Recycling

  • Free
    • Used clothing, shoes, small toys
  • Size is limited due to the slot being 30” x 15”

Tires (limit of 5)

  • $2 each off rim
  • $5 each on rim
  • Oversized tires are not accepted

Used Oil/Anti-Freeze Recycling

  • Used motor oil, used residential oil filters, and used anti-freeze
  • Limit of 10 gallons per visit

The Convenience Centers DO NOT accept the following

  • Ammunition
  • Asbestos
  • Contractor Construction and Demolition Debris
  • Dirt
  • Lead
  • Medical Waste
  • Oversized Tires
  • Stumps
  • Timber greater than 16” in diameter or 8' long
  • Fire Extinguishers
