On Tuesday (July 18th, 2017) the Planning Commission will hold a work session, at which time they will discuss, among other matters, the draft Northern Jefferson Davis Special Area Plan. This work session will be open to the public; however, the work session will not be open to public comment. The purpose of this work session is to provide the Planning Commission an opportunity to review the draft plan prior to scheduling a public hearing, at which time they will welcome public comments on the draft plan.

This work session will be held in the Public Meeting Room located on the campus of the Chesterfield County Government Center, at 10001 Iron Bridge Road. The work session will begin at 1:00 p.m.

During the month of May the draft Plan was posted on the county’s web page for public review and comment. Staff also held a workshop at which citizens could review the draft Plan, ask questions, and make comments. Citizen comments were received at the work shop and online, and all comments were reviewed by staff. A summary of all comments received and staff responses can be found at this link: NJD SAP All Public Comments

Moving Forward – The Comprehensive Plan For Chesterfield County, provides the framework for guiding land use and development decisions on a countywide basis. Special area plans focus on the needs of specific communities. These plans will build upon the foundation laid with the adoption of the countywide plan, providing more specific detailed analyses and recommendations tailored to the unique issues and opportunities within the special area plan geographies. To this end, the special area plans should make recommendations that compliment, but do not conflict, with the overall goals and recommendations of the countywide plan. The Northern Jefferson Davis Special Area Plan will build upon the foundation laid by the county’s adopted comprehensive plan.

The special area plans are designed to bring base land use recommendations within the plan geography into conformance with the countywide land use plan, while recognizing the unique qualities of the area that must be addressed through additional recommendations and tools.

Northern Jefferson Davis is a new special area plan that requires extensive planning efforts and community involvement which were outside the scope of the recently adopted countywide comprehensive plan amendment. This project will implement the recommendations of the comprehensive plan for Northern Jefferson Davis. Once adopted, this special area plan will become an amendment to the county’s overall comprehensive plan.

The intent of this project is to provide the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors with recommendations regarding the plan, together with recommendations relative to revitalization and economic development efforts, where appropriate, and recommendations for implementation tools.
