Our Mission

If you are a first time Parent, look what we have for you. A program that provides family support services to you and your child as he/she grows and becomes a healthy, well-adjusted individual who is ready to start school at 5 years old.

Who We Are

The Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Families First staff are enthusiastic, dedicated and committed to helping first time moms. The program is designed to assist first time Moms in forming strong and lasting relationships with their children and helping them explore and secure resources to maintain a positive home environment.

What We Believe

If you are a first time parent, here is what is available for you: a program that provides you with helpful information, fun activities, and personalizes support to ensure that your baby grows into a happy, healthy child... ready and eager to start kindergarten.

Parents are the most important people to give love and support to their children.

Home Visitation*

Regular visits in your home, provided by a professionally trained family support worker, to assist you in...

• nurturing and taking care of your child
• nurturing and taking care of yourself
• sharing your concerns
• answering your questions

Your family support worker will share with you information, videos, and activities about...

• childbirth preparation
• child health and development
• parenting and parent/child interaction
• local resources, including a doctor for your child, child care, and other services

*Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Families First home visitation services are offered to those first time parents who enter prenatal care at Chesterfield or Colonial Heights Health Departments. All services offered through this program are free.
