TITLE: Stream Watcher Volunteers (unlimited #) SCHEDULE: 2 to 4 times a year (seasonal), at your convenience RESPONSIBILITIES: Get to know a stream in Chesterfield County. If you are looking for a family project, think about becoming a stream watcher. Volunteers spend time on a stream taking pictures and recording observations such as plants, animals, insects found in the area. You can even get your feet wet if you want! We are looking for information on how a stream changes over time. Data collected is utilized for both local and statewide reporting. BACKGROUND: All training and supplies provided by the Office of Water Quality. All ages can be involved in the process. TITLE: Lake Monitoring Program (unlimited #) SCHEDULE: Once a month during growing seasons (April - October) RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a great project for citizens living near or on a lake. If you enjoy boating or fishing, why not find out how healthy the lake is while you are recreating? Once a month volunteers go to their lake and collect information regarding the health of the lake and its surroundings. Data collected is utilized for both local and statewide reporting. BACKGROUND: All training and supplies provided by the office of Water Quality. Use of pier or boat is necessary. Good family project. TITLE: Storm Drain Marking Program SCHEDULE: Short-term project on your own schedule RESPONSIBILITIES: Ever wonder what happens to water after it goes down the storm drain? Help educate fellow citizens about the importance of not polluting by applying storm drain markers in neighborhoods. This is a great project for a scout, church, or school group.
