To strengthen preservation efforts, Chesterfield County adopted its own Historic Preservation Ordinance in 1987. Information regarding this ordinance and the county’s preservation process may be found below.

Chesterfield County Preservation Committee 

The Preservation Committee is a Board of Supervisors appointed committee established to administer the county’s Historic Preservation Ordinance.  The Committee meet on an as-needed basis, typically the 4th Tuesday of the month.  All applications must be submitted within 10 working days prior to the meeting to be considered.

State & National Registers of Historic Places

Congress in 1966 passed the National Historic Preservation Act to officially recognize important historic properties at both the state and national levels. Contact the Virginia Department of Historic Resources for more information regarding listing a property on these registers and any associated incentives for doing so.
