 Government Citizens Academy

The spring academy is full. Registration is still open for the fall session.

Chesterfield County values civic engagement and opportunities for residents to learn about their local government. Through interactive sessions and optional tours of facilities, residents will get a comprehensive look at how and why programs and services are provided. A new tool to enhance and grow the county’s communications efforts and increase engagement, the Government Citizens Academy is a hands-on learning opportunity where citizens may provide feedback about how the county is doing.

Held twice a year, the Government Citizens Academy convenes in the spring and fall. Twenty-five to 30 people will be able to participate in each academy, which is free and open to the public. The academy held in the spring will hold sessions in the early evening and the fall academy’s sessions will be during the work day. Each academy will last about six weeks.

The Government Citizens Academy is intended for a diverse audience. Whether you have been a resident of the community for 30 years, a new business owner, a curious high school student, a prospective homeowner looking to move into the community or a resident looking for volunteer opportunities, Chesterfield’s Government Citizens Academy is for you.

Application Process and Selection

Those interested in participating in the academy must fill out a short application form. At this time, registration is open for the fall academy.

Entry into the academy will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
