Leadership for the 21st Century Scholarships

The Chesterfield County Black History Month Celebration Program is sponsoring the Leadership for the 21st Century Scholarships for eligible Chesterfield County Public School students. The scholarships are designed to recognize and reward the achievements and contributions of Chesterfield County high school seniors. This is the 21st year that these scholarships have been awarded.

Students interested in applying need to meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a Chesterfield County Public School senior who attends one of Chesterfield County’s public high schools, or one of the two regional Governor’s Schools.
  • You must plan to attend a Virginia college or university.
  • You must submit an application, including a written essay about the selected theme, “African Americans in Times of War.”
    • Applications can be found at all high school counseling offices.
  • The deadline to apply is 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.
    • Applications must be submitted to Bryan Carr, Coordinator for School Counseling Services, at the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center @ Hull Street, 13900 Hull Street Road, Midlothian, VA 23112.

Scholarship Information

  • Six scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2,500.
  • A winner will be selected from each of the five Chesterfield County magisterial districts, and one scholarship will be awarded to a Chesterfield County student attending one of the regional Governor Schools.
  • Scholarship award winners will be notified by Feb. 1.
  • Scholarship recipients also will receive certificates of achievement.

The Black History Month Business and Scholarship Awards Breakfast will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. Scholarship recipients will be asked to attend with their parents or guardian.
