Chesterfield County is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors elected by district. The Board of Supervisors appoints a county administrator who directs the county's day-to-day operations. Mr. James J.L. Stegmaier has served as County Administrator since August 2007. The Board adopted a budget for FY2010 totaling $1.22 billion, which includes a general fund budget of $715,193,000 and $623,481,500 for schools. The two largest components of the budget are the county’s general fund and school fund.
