Note: An Annual Absentee Ballot Application is also available (for permanent residents of Virginia who are unable to go to the polls because of illness or disability. First time applicants will need to have the application form signed by a physician.

Emergency Absentee Ballot Applications

Criteria

  • Any person hospitalized or incapacitated on or after the 14th day preceding the election and was not able to request an application by the 7th day preceding the election. 
  • An authorized individual must certify the statement of facts to qualify for an emergency ballot. 

Application Instructions

  • Please be sure to answer EVERY question and SIGN the application.
  • Return the completed application by 5 p.m. on the 7th day preceding the election.
  • After the Registrar’s Office receives the application and processes it, a ballot will be mailed to the mailing address given on the application.
  • Upon receiving the ballot, carefully review the provided instructions.
  • Return the ballot to the office of the General Registrar by 7 p.m. the day of the election.
