Treasurer - Tax Payment Options

Pay Taxes Online or Over the Telephone

Pay Online

  • Have your tax statement in hand to pay personal property taxes (car taxes) or real estate taxes (land and buildings).

Pay via Telephone

  • 24-hour telephone charge capability is available by calling 1-877-690-3729.
  • When prompted, enter jurisdiction code 1005, and all other information as requested.

The following credit and debit cards may be used to pay your taxes (Convenience fees are charged for this service.)

NOTE: If you are paying a DMV Stop Fee and all required personal property tax bills, the hold on your DMV vehicle registration will be released by 5 p.m. the next business day after the charge is made.

Pay Taxes Through Online Banking

Online banking software can be used to pay taxes. Please include your tax account number located in the upper right corner of your tax statement and use the following remittance address for processing:

Pay Taxes by Mail

  • Please use the return envelope enclosed with your tax statement.
  • Make checks payable to “Treasurer, Chesterfield County” and ensure your payment is postmarked on or before the due date.
    • Tax laws require that mail payments be processed effective the postmark date.
    • Payments postmarked after the due date are considered late and additional charges will be incurred.
  • One check may be written for multiple statements.
  • Your canceled check is your receipt.
    • If you require an additional receipt, return both portions of your statement and a stamped, addressed envelope with your payment.

NOTE: If your bill will not be paid by the indicated due date, please call our office immediately at 804-748-1201 to discuss your account. Tax laws require that collection action be taken on delinquent accounts.

NOTE: Once collection action has been taken, no personal or business checks will be accepted.

Pay Taxes by Direct Debit

Sign up for our convenient Automated Payment Service(APS) and have payments deducted from your bank on the due date. Please note that it takes 30-45 days to activate your APS service.

To sign up for the APS service, please perform the following

  • Read APS Cover Letter 
  • Complete the APS Authorization Form online and print, or print and complete
  • All BANK account owners must sign form
  • Include a voided check
  • Mail APS Authorization Form and voided check to:
