About Transportation

The Transportation Department plans, coordinates and implements a multi-modal transportation system for Chesterfield County that allows mobility of people and goods, consistent with the values of the community. The Transportation Department provides service primarily in the form of assistance, information and recommendations on technical and policy issues to the Board of Supervisors, County Administration, the development community and citizens; and manages, coordinates and/or oversees road construction projects to assist in providing an adequate transportation network. Most of the roads in the county are maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Tri-Cities Multimodal Station NEPA Study is underway. The study is evaluating sites in the Tri-Cities region, including the existing Ettrick train station, for the future train/transit station. Please share your comments with the study team. Information about the study and comment forms can be found at The public comment period closes September 30, 2015.
