Treasurer - Tax Payment Options

Direct Debit... a convenient way to pay your bills

Now you don't have to worry about missing your county tax bill due dates! Sign up for our convenient Automated Payment Service (APS) and have your payment deducted from your bank on the due date.   Attached below is additional information about this service including frequently asked questions (FAQ's) and an authorization form.

To sign up for the APS service, please perform the following:

  1. Print out the APS Authorization Form included above
  2. Complete the form
  3. Please make sure all owners sign the form
  4. Include a voided check
  5. Mail the APS Authorization Form and a voided check to:

Fax a copy of the Authorization Form and voided check to 804-751-4993.  Please note “Attention of APS Division” on the Fax.


Contact our office at 804-748-1855 if you have any questions concerning the service or have questions that arise in the completion of the Authorization Form. For information on having your County Utility bills automatically deducted from your bank account, please contact the Utilities Department at 804-748-1291 . 

Pay Taxes Online or Over the Telephone

You can pay your county taxes by major credit or debit card over a secure Internet site or via telephone.

To pay online, please have your tax bill in hand to pay personal property taxes (car taxes) or real estate taxes (land and buildings)

(If you are paying a DMV Stop Fee and all required personal property tax bills, the hold on your DMV vehicle registration will be released by 5 p.m. the next business day after the charge is made.)

To pay via telephone, 24-hour telephone charge capability is available by calling 1-877-690-3729. When prompted, enter jurisdiction code #1005 and all other information as requested.

The following credit and debit cards may be used to pay your taxes over the Internet or telephone system: American Express, MasterCard, VISA, and Discover. Convenience fees are charged for this service.

Pay Taxes Through Online Banking

You can pay your County taxes through your online banking software. When you use this method to pay taxes, please include your tax account number or tax bill number and use the following remittance address for processing:

Pay Taxes By Mail

Please use the return envelope enclosed with your bills for mailing your payment. Make checks payable to “Treasurer, Chesterfield County” and ensure your payment is postmarked on or before the due date. Tax laws require that mail payments be processed effective the postmark date. Payments postmarked after the due date are considered late and additional charges will be incurred. One check may be written for multiple bills. Your canceled check is your receipt. If you require an additional receipt, return both portions of your bill and a stamped, addressed envelope with your payment.

Please mail any correspondence to Treasurer’s Office, P. O. Box 70, Chesterfield, VA 23832. If your bill will not be paid by the indicated due date, please call our office immediately at 804-748-1201 to discuss your account. Tax laws require that collection action be taken on delinquent accounts.

Pay Taxes In Our Office

Current Taxes - When you visit our office, you can pay your current County taxes with cash, check, money order, debit card or credit card.  Convenience fees are charged on credit and debit card transactions.

Delinquent Taxes – Once collection action has been taken, all payments must be in the form of cash, cashier’s check, money order, debit card or credit card.  No personal checks will be accepted.  Convenience fees are charged on credit and debit card transactions.
