Success Stories
Trying to find the time and energy to exercise as a family is tough — but
so rewarding. Do you have a success story you can share? Send it, along
with photos, to Success Stories, Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 40, Chesterfield,
Va. 23832. Please include your address and telephone number.
Each month we will select two stories to place on this Web site, and
these entries will receive gift packs.
Here are a few stories that may help to keep you motivated:
A dog can help a whole family stay fit!
Our family understands the importance of taking several walks every
day with our young dog. Involving our 6-year-old in those walks helps
in several ways, including staying fit and showing responsibility. The
immediate reward for our son is seeing the dog's excitement as we prepare
to walk her, and we always use that walking time to reinforce the importance
of healthy exercise for each of us as well as demonstrating what it means
to be a responsible dog owner. In addition, it gives us a chance to talk
about our day without the interference of television, etc.

Playing on the water
These days it is hard to get my son outdoors, but he never passes up
the chance to go paddling with me. And it gives me the chance to teach
him about how important it is to take care of our resources. Put off
the Saturday cleaning and take the early morning hours to play with your
kid. You’ll be glad you did!
