The final painting and grooving will be completed before the end of the year. A mixed-use development, located on Iron Bridge Road, has been approved. Watermark will include single-family and multi-family homes, townhouses, and commercial and office space. The National Achievement Scholarship Program has named Tschuna Gibson of Bird High School as one of the 1,600 semifinalists in the 44th annual competition. The program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American students. Gibson has the opportunity to fulfill additional requirements and advance to the finalist level where she would compete for one of 800 scholarships. A project to reconstruct a half mile of Newbys Bridge Road from Qualla Road eastward is under way and should be completed by the end of the month. The playgrounds at Goyne and Dodd parks will be improved with new and replacement equipment next spring. The renovation of Goyne Park tennis courts should be completed this fall. Construction is expected to begin next year on a project to reconstruct Beulah Road between Summerleaf Drive and Hopkins Road. The county also was successful in obtaining federal safety funds to improve the curve in the vicinity of Mason Woods. This project may be combined with the Beulah Road bond project.
