2018 Black History Month Celebration
African Americans in Times of War

Each year, Chesterfield County citizens celebrate Black History Month with a variety of programs, including

  • musical performances
  • lectures
  • dance
  • storytelling

All are designed to explore the rich, diverse background of African Americans and their contributions to our community and nation. The Black History Month celebration has been a tradition in the county for 29 years.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, Chesterfield County is pleased to announce a new Black History Month Celebration partnership with Virginia State University. For years, the county and university have successfully partnered on many community projects, and this year, began a new partnership to enhance Black History Month events in the county. With the focus on education, the university’s commitment to take on a leadership role with this project as it moves forward can only elevate its appeal in the community, particularly with our youth.

This year’s theme, “African Americans in Times of War,” reflects the national theme. Educational activities will take place throughout the month of February, and will be held in various locations within the county.
