Kite Day – March
Clover Hill Athletic Complex, 17701 Genito Road
The entire family will enjoy an afternoon of kite flying and fun. Bring your own kite or make one for free. Contests during the event include: smallest kite, largest kite, most original hand-made kite and youngest and oldest flyers.

Falling Creek Ironworks Archaeology Tour – March
Falling Creek Ironworks, 6407 Jefferson Davis Highway
Join us for an exciting exploration of America’s first iron furnace, the 1619-22 ironworks on Falling Creek. Tour guides will lead you through the archaeological ruins of both the 1619 ironworks and Archibald Cary’s colonial grist mill. Activities include guided tours, exhibits, costumed interpreters, living history, demonstrations such as period cooking, blacksmithing, shoemaking and candle making, and special entertainment. Admission is free.

Musket, Sword and Pike – May
Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Road
Come drill with the Henricus Militia. Experience a day in the life of the soldiers of Sir Thomas Dale’s militia. Visit with the soldiers in the Citie of Henricus, participate in the drill, see demonstrations of tactics, armor and weaponry used by the 17th century soldiers who built and protected Henricus.

Pocahontas Premieres – June-August

Henricus Publick Days – September
Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Road
Be a part of the annual celebration of the 1611 founding of the Citie of Henricus. Experience the past as 400 years of history come to life with demonstrations of 17th-century medical practices, military re-enactments, Virginia Indian activities, historical children’s games, storytelling, craft demonstrations and a kids’ Fun Area with hands-on activities. Admission is free. There are additional fees for crafts.

Eppington Heritage Day – First Saturday in October
Eppington, 14600 Eppes Falls Road
Spend the day experiencing historic Eppington Plantation. Eppington is a circa 1765 plantation named after the Eppes family who were major landowners in the area as early as the mid-1600s. House and ground tours of the plantation, which is rarely open to the public, will be offered. There will be games, activities, period music, dancing, living history, storytelling and craft demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public.

Historic Tour of Midlothian Mines – October
Midlothian Mines Park, 13301 North Woolridge Road
Come out to Midlothian Mines and Railroad Park to learn about the vast mining history that abounded in Midlothian. Take a tour and learn about the events that shaped the history of Chesterfield County. This walking tour will cover moderate to easy terrain and will take place in fair or foul weather, so wear comfortable shoes. The event is free and open to the public.

James River Parade of Lights – Second Saturday in December
