One of Chesterfield County’s strategic goals is to increase public awareness and participation in the public safety system. In support of this goal, Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office offers a variety of programs.

For additional information on any of the programs listed below, please contact

Chesterfield TRIAD

Chesterfield TRIAD gives seniors a voice when it comes to their personal safety and security and offers them an opportunity to socialize while learning ways to be safe and secure.

Seniors-In-Touch

Seniors qualified for this program receive daily phone calls from sheriff’s office personnel for updates on daily events, health and needs as well as weekly deputy visits.

File of Life / Yellow Dot

The FILE OF LIFE information card is held inside a magnetic red vinyl sleeve marked FILE OF LIFE, which the user posts on the refrigerator. The Yellow Dot is a similar safety program designed to save you valuable time in the event of an automobile related incident.

Play-It-Safe Child ID

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office provides FREE child identification kits to the public through its Play-It Safe, Child ID Program.

Hunter Safety Course

Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office has hosted this course FREE of charge since 1992. The course runs two consecutive nights and is mandatory for issuance of a first-time hunter’s license in Virginia.

Concealed Carry and Handgun Safety

These courses are offered by our certified firearms instructors on the fourth Wednesday of January, March, May, July, September and November from 6-9 p.m. Class size is limited to 30 students and a reservation is required.

Courthouse and County Jail Tours

These guided tours offer individuals and groups the opportunity to go “behind the scenes” and learn the functions of our county court and criminal justice system.

Inmate Outreach Program

This program offers students the opportunity to listen to a current county jail inmate share his or her personal story of choices and consequences with the goal of changing negative behaviors and lifestyles.

Honor Guard

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard represent the members of our agency at special occasions through proudly displaying our Nation’s colors and rendering proper ceremonial honors for fallen members of our law enforcement community, as well as civic leaders.

Juvenile Offenders Learning Tour (JOLT)

This tour provides juveniles and young adults exposure to inmate living conditions, visitation, kitchen, property storage and daily life in the county jail while emphasizing the restrictions that are imposed on those who are incarcerated in our facility.
