Be an active participant - Be an Officer of Election

Working the Polls

You can apply to join as one of the citizens serving as an Officer of Election! It takes over 700 Officers of Election working the polls to conduct an election in Chesterfield County.

Whether you are a worker, student, retiree, or person of leisure, your desire to be part of the process and your willingness to work qualifies you for consideration.

As a registered voter in Chesterfield County you can serve your community and earn a little extra money as an Officer of Election.

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and closing the polls
  • Demonstrating voting equipment
  • Issuing ballots to voters
  • Providing voter assistance
  • Overseeing election procedures to ensure a fair and impartial election
  • Assisting in the certification of votes cast at the precinct

Compensation for service as an Officer of Election begins at $125 per election. You are eligible to work in any Chesterfield County polling place, not just the polling place where you would normally vote.

All officers of election report to the polls at 5:15 a.m. and remain until results are reported after the 7 p.m. close of the polls.


Apply to Become an Officer of Election

When your information is processed, you will receive the application packet in the mail to complete, notarize, and return to the Registrar's Office. (These documents may be notarized in the Registrar's Office without fee.) Thank you for your interest.
