Chesterfield Police 2001 Annual ReportTo the Citizens of Chesterfield County: The Chesterfield County Police Department remains committed to your safety. Every day more than 500 women and men resolve to ensure Chesterfield County is the safest and most secure community of its size in the United States. Our team of officers, detectives and personnel strive to respond to the needs of our community through one of the most basic means -human interaction. Coupled with innovative technology and training we emerge as one of the leading police departments in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation. In the past year, we maintained the lowest crime rate per capita in the Richmond metropolitan area. We implemented an innovative radio system, which now enables direct communications among public-safety personnel in multiple agencies and localities. We completed the first phase of a public-safety-training complex in Enon with the completion of a small-arms firing range. Additionally, we continue to promote the spirit of volunteerism within the department. We implemented a Motorist Assistance program staffed entirely by volunteers. Our commitment to learning and education resulted in the creation of Public Safety University, a regional partnership with the University of Richmond. The 2001 Annual Report illustrates and celebrates the successes and accomplishments of the Chesterfield County Police Department. As we move forward, we constantly strive to evolve and improve as a department. Our community and volunteers play key roles in the fight against crime and the prevention of domestic terrorism. We have fostered a strong partnership with our citizens so that we may better serve all residents of and visitors to Chesterfield County. I thank you for your continued support! Sincerely, Colonel Carl R. Baker
