Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence
Chesterfield County's coordinated community response to domestic violence is an interagency effort to change the climate of tolerance toward family abuse by institutionalizing practices and procedures which centralize victim safety and offender accountability in domestic assault cases.
In Chesterfield, we believe that effective intervention in domestic assaults occurs when each agency and service clarifies and coordinates their policies, procedures and practices in order to meet the major goals of community intervention. We are committed to working together against domestic violence striving for a seamless community response system where all elements of the County share responsibility for strengthening our efforts in addressing family violence.
Goals of Chesterfield County's Coordinated Response to Domestic Violence:
- To provide safety and self-determination for victims
- To hold offenders accountable for their violence and for stopping it
- To promote a clear understanding of domestic violence as a crime
- To promote a coordinated and integrated community response
- To transform personal, community and institutional attitudes so that domestic violence will not be tolerated.
Coordinated and integrated efforts promote safety and justice for battered victims by providing mechanisms for improving communication and collaboration between criminal justice, human service agencies and community services and resources. Raising the community's awareness and reshaping social norms around domestic violence so that everyone plays a role in condemning abuse and supporting battered victims is the critical basis for widespread and permanent changes.
