Dan Gecker was re-elected as the Midlothian District Supervisor in November 2011, and began his second term of 4 years on January 1, 2012. He was elected as the Board's Vice-Chairman in 2008 and again in 2009. He was elected as the Board's Chairman in 2010 and 2012.
Mr. Gecker has been active in community affairs in Chesterfield County since 1991. He represented the Midlothian District on the Chesterfield County Planning Commission from 2000 to 2007, serving as chairman in 2002, 2003 and 2007. Mr. Gecker served as vice-chairman of Chesterfield's Committee on the Future, a citizens group appointed by the Board to do long range strategic planning for the county. Mr. Gecker currently serves on the boards of the Greater Richmond Partnership and the Maymont Foundation, as well as the executive committees of the Capital Region Airport Commission and the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission.
Mr. Gecker holds a degree in economics from Princeton University and a law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. Mr. Gecker practiced tax and real estate law prior for over two decades. He retired from the practice of law in 2004 to manage the tax credit syndication business he founded and to participate in the rehabilitation of historic structures. Mr. Gecker taught as an adjunct professor in the graduate program in Urban Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University for five years. He was recently awarded Society Honors by the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects for his work in preserving the built environment.
Mr. Gecker along with his wife Liz Gibbs, and their four daughters live in the Crestwood Farms neighborhood. He is a former president of the Crestwood Farms Residents Association. He has coached numerous youth sports teams. Mr. Gecker has served on the boards of Huguenot Little League and FC Richmond Soccer Club.
