Waste and Resource Recovery

Anti-Litter Program

Chesterfield County's Litter Program, part of the Waste and Resource Recovery Division, began July 1, 2004. This program offers two programs:

Litter Collection

Chesterfield County provides a collection program that is a year round program to collect litter at known locations. The Sheriff's Department utilizes inmate crews to assist in collection of litter.

Litter Volunteer Opportunities

Adopt-A-Highway: Chesterfield partners with the Virginia Department of Transportation in offering this program. Citizens agree to pick up litter four times a year for two years. VDOT provides trash bags, vests, safety information, and highway signs that show volunteer commitment. For more information, contact VDOT at 1-800-774-3382, e-mail adoptahighway@VirginiaDOT.org or call Chesterfield County Litter Program at (804) 748-1297.

Adopt-A-Spot: This program is coordinated by Chesterfield County. Organizations, companies and individuals are taking pride in their community by keeping a specific site free from litter. The Chesterfield County Litter Program will supply garbage bags and reflective vests. Based on Adopt-A-Highway, this program allows groups and individuals to adopt smaller and more secure areas, as opposed to busy roadways. To participate in this worthwhile program, call (804) 748-1297.

The goal for the county’s litter program is to have Chesterfield County continue to be a First Choice Community!
