Waste and Resource Recovery

Recycling

Household Hazardous Waste Recycling

Chesterfield County offers disposal services for a variety of household hazardous waste products at the Northern Area Convenience Center and the Southern Area Convenience Center.  Waste products such as: paints, pesticides, acids, solvents and aerosol cans may be disposed of at these sites. Assistance on the proper disposal of these items will be provided by the site attendants.  Auto batteries are also accepted at all convenience centers. Further information can be obtained by calling our customer service center at 748-1297.

A key benefit of this program is protecting the environment from illegal dumping and disposal of hazardous materials.  There is no charge for this service.

Used Oil Recycling

Used motor oil, used residential oil filters and used anti-freeze are accepted at both locations, with a limit of five gallons per visit.

Drop-off Recycling

This program allows county residents in multi-family facilities like apartments, condominiums and town homes, where curbside recycling is not available, to recycle their materials. This program collects the same materials as the curbside program including: aluminum, glass, metal containers, mixed paper (junk mail, magazines, catalogs, computer paper and office paper), #1 and #2 narrow neck plastic bottles, and cardboard.
